Cooking the Italian Way

Cooking the Italian Way | PDF | 7.7 MB

This appealing title for beginning cooks has been revised to include vegetarian recipes and low-fat suggestions in addition to pasta and pizza. The introductory section also has been expanded-it covers the land and its people, regional foods, holidays and festivals, and the market. The next section covers safety suggestions, utensils needed, cooking terms, ingredients, healthy-cooking tips, and a metric conversion chart. The remainder of the book is devoted to recipes, which are divided into dinner, supper, and holiday and festival food. Recipes for risotto, Bisignano spinach, bruschetta, and ossi dei morti (dead bone cookies) are among the 19 offerings. Full-page color photos of the food inspire novices to try their hands in the kitchen. The recipes have simple step-by-step instructions and some call for packaged items (hot cross buns uses refrigerator crescent rolls). Substitutions are suggested if the Italian ingredients are not available. For example, Bisignano recommends using long grain rice if arborio can't be found. A good offering for multicultural events that include food.

Scientific American Mind is a popular-science magazine, published (first weekly and later monthly) since August 28, 1845, making it the oldest continuously published magazine in the United States. It brings articles about new and innovative research to the amateur and lay audience.

For working scientists, especially in high-tech fields, there are only a few crucial nonjournal periodicals to pore over faithfully, and Scientific American is one of them--its timely and technical features on everything from paleoarchaeology to neural nets set it apart from popular science magazines like Discover. Scientific American emphasizes a wide variety of emerging technologies, giving scientists a chance to keep up in an increasingly specialized professional world. Innovative and controversial developments such as gene patenting and the latest from the unified field gurus are front and center in every issue. It's not all business, though--regular features like Michael Shermer's "Skeptic" column, enticing book reviews, brain-busting puzzles, and James Burke's intellectual-historical meanderings add browsability to this enduring magazine, in business reporting the frontiers of scientific exploration for more than 150 years.

English Grammar For Dummies

Why does grammar make everyone so nervous? Probably because English teachers, for decades – no, for centuries – have been making a big deal out of grammar in classrooms, diagramming sentences and drilling the parts of speech, clauses, and verbals into students until they beg for mercy. Happily, you don’t have to learn all those technical terms of English grammar – and you certainly don’t have to diagram sentences – in order to speak and write correct English.

The Logical Trader by Mark Fisher

An in-depth look at the trading system that anyone can use The Logical Trader presents a highly effective, yet simple trading methodology that any trader anywhere can use to trade almost anything. The "ACD Method" developed and refined by Mark Fisher after many years of successful trading, provides price points at which to buy and sell as determined by the opening range of virtually any stock or commodity. This comprehensive guide details a widely used system that is profitably implemented by many computer and floor traders at major New York exchanges. The author's highly accessible teaching style provides readers of The Logical Trader with a full examination of the theory behind the ACD Method and the examples and real-world trading stories involving it. Mark B. Fisher (New York, NY), an independent trader, is founder of MBF Clearing Corp., the largest clearing firm on the NYMEX. Founded in 1988, MBF Clearing has grown from handling under one percent of the volume on the NYMEX to nearly twenty percent of the trades today.

Traders need the wisdom of industry veterans and the vision of innovators in today's volatile financial marketplace. The Wiley Trading series features books by traders who have survived the market's ever changing temperament and have prospered-some by reinventing systems, others by getting back to basics. Whether a novice trader, professional or somewhere in-between, these books will provide the advice and strategies needed to prosper today and well into the future.

The Logical Trader: Applying a Method to the Madness is packed full of very useful trading tips and a sound trading system. Most traders use this system for day trading, but it can be used on longer term trading. This book, or system, is more of a way of trading than an absolute cut-and-dry trading plan. A few of Fisher’s traders have their testimonials in the book on how they trade the ACD Method. Surprisingly, they all use just a small variety of the methods to suit their trading style.

New traders may be a bit lost when reading the book and it might take several reads and studying to fully comprehend what Fisher is saying. He does not give a good summary of the whole plan, but he spreads it throughout the book. Therefore, I suggest taking notes and writing your own summary of the trading methods. From there, take the pieces that best suit your trading style.

The most important aspect of this book is that you need to trade with a disciplined approach. The ACD Method gives you trade entries, rigid places for to put your stop losses and you trade with the trends. That alone greatly increases you chances for success.

A 1982 summa cum laude graduate from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, Fisher also received his master's degree in finance and accounting from Wharton. New technology and the advent of around the clock trading have opened the floodgates to both foreign and domestic markets.

Fisher does stress that you need to be consistent when using the system. Trade the same timeframes, cut your losses short, don’t risk too much on any trade and over time, you’ll be successful. You also have to use some judgment when trading the system. It was meant for volatile markets that are trending. If you get caught in a market that gets stuck in a range, you can reverse the system. Instead of following the breakout levels, you can fade them.

Beyond Candlesticks by Steve Nison

Known internationally as ``The Father of Candlesticks,'' Nison reveals more Japanese charting methods which have never been published or used in the Western world. Describes kagi, renko and three-line break charts. Provides a brief review of candlesticks and previously unavailable candlestick patterns that can be used in equities, fixed-income, foreign exchange and overseas markets.

If you already own "Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques" by the same author, then this is going to be alot of review for you. Most of the book is just much of the same information contained in aforementioned. Unless you are seeking a heavy dose of more of the same, no need to purchase this one, stick to the first book, which should serve you well as a reference.

From the "Father of Candlesticks"—penetrating new Japanese techniques for forecasting and tracking market prices and improving market timing Steve Nison has done it again. The man who revolutionized technical analysis by introducing Japanese candlestick charting techniques to Western traders is back—this time with a quartet of powerful Japanese techniques never before published or used in the West.

Stunningly effective on their own, these new techniques pack an even greater wallop when teamed up with traditional trading, investing, or hedging strategies, and Steve Nison shows you how to do it. Beyond Candlesticks provides step-by-step instructions, detailed charts and graphs, and clear-cut guidance on tracking and analyzing results—everything you need to pick up these sharp new tools and take your place at the cutting edge of technical analysis. Critical praise for Steve Nison’s first book … "… destined to become the classic reference on the subject.

Steve Nison’s new candlestick book is destined to become one of the truly great books for this time period.… Whether you trade futures, commodities, or equities, day trade or hold positions overnight, this book is a must

The first part of this book covers some main parts his best selling classic book on candlestick back in the early 1990s with some new insights. The second part of the book explains some new charting techniques only then known in Japan. These techinques I found are quite adequate if used with candlesticks but nothing revolutionary as I have expected. Candlestick charting is still the fundamental tool used for trading.

It is hard to be too effusive about the quality of Nison’s work … this is clearly one of the best investment books ever written in terms of covering a subject with pedagogical ability and writing skill. The organization is impeccable … reading this will a pleasure.

Documents research on the impact of computer games on the learning of adults. Computer games and learning are characterized from a series of different theoretical and empirical viewpoints. Both civilian sector and military applications are presented.

While effectiveness of game environments to support learning can be documented in terms of intensity and longevity of engagement (participants voting with their time), as well as the commercial success of the games, there is much less solid empirical information about what instructional outcomes are systematically achieved by the playing of individual and multiplayer games. This book will address these issues.

Designed for professionals in the gaming, simulation, assessment and evaluation, educational technology, and educational psychology communities, this book explores the state of the art in the use of computer game technology for teaching and measurement of learning in adults. : Day Trading the Currency Market by Kathy Lien

The currency/foreign exchange (FX) market is by far the largest financial market in the world, with trading volumes surpassing $1.9 trillion a day. Although primarily dominated by a worldwide network of interbank traders, a new era of Internet-based communication technologies has recently allowed individual investors to gain direct access to this popular—and profitable—market.

Written by Kathy Lien—chief strategist for the number one online currency broker in the world—Day Trading the Currency Market reveals a variety of technical and fundamental profit-making strategies for trading the currency/FX market, and provides a more detailed look at how this market actually works.

Filled with in-depth insight and expert advice, Day Trading the Currency Market can show you how to enter this highly competitive arena with confidence and exit with profits.

You will find some interesting and informative content in this book that can be useful in your educational path in Forex. But it is important to keep in mind that the book is written not by a trading entrepreneur but by a representative of one of the largest Forex brokers. To become a successful trader it is essential to recognize the vast difference in agenda between winning traders and brokers. The entire industry is driven by brokers and almost all material available on learning to trade is tied directly or indirectly to the broker industry whose agenda is to teach trading strategies that make the most money for THEM. Because the industry is unregulated, brokers are able to get away with many less than ethical practices. For instance, it is ironic that another reader mentions how Kathy covers the subject of the "carry trade" in detail.

Studying trading material published by brokers is like asking a casino owner how to gamble. Most of the trading "mentors" are also introducing brokers who make money when you trade. A word to the wise, is that if you intend to succeed in Forex trading consider looking to sources of information that are not tied to any broker such as other traders who have learned to master this arcane art.

Designed for both the advanced and novice trader, Day Trading the Currency Market contains something for everyone. It touches on the major FX market basics or currency characteristics that all traders—particularly day traders—need to know, and contains actionable information on which you can base some of your trading strategies. This comprehensive guide opens with a straightforward discussion of general issues, such as the emergence of the foreign exchange market, who the major players are, and significant historical milestones, but quickly delves into more detailed topics in the following sections:
* What moves the currency market—factors that impact both long- and short-term price movements
* What are the best times to trade for individual currency pairs—through an outline of major currency pair trading activity (in different time zones), you'll discover when pairs are most attractive
* Trade parameters for different market conditions—teaches you how to first profile a trading environment and then know which indicators to use for that trading environment
* Technical trading strategies—covers some of the most important trading strategies for day traders and swing traders. They run the gamut, from "Fading the Double Zeros" to the "Inside Day Breakout Play"
* Fundamental trading strategies—illustrates how to trade off commodity prices, fixed income instruments, and option volatilities; and covers intervention-based trades as well as the secret moneymaking strategies used by hedge funds
* A profile of major currency pairs—discusses the unique characteristics of each major currency pair, from what drives their price action to which economic data releases are most important.

This is an extraordinary book that is many levels above other books on currency trading. It's filled with practical tips deriving from Kathy's experiences as a trader at JPMorgan and as an analyst and educator to online traders. A must-read for novice and experienced traders alike, this book will save readers a lot of money in expensive trading lessons.

Wall Street by Doug Henwood

In this "down and dirty" diatribe about American finance, journalist and New York radio personality Henwood makes no attempt at a balanced portrayal of Wall Street. He aims to "embarrass official wisdom" and expose the financial world's weaknesses, perhaps too gloatingly. Intemperate phrasing abounds, e.g., "real estate is based on milking wealth from land and tenants."

Admittedly, Henwood flails at both the Left and the Right, and he doesn't hide his biases, but he lovingly quotes Keynes and Marx a little too often. Henwood doesn't claim to be offering any practical investment advice; nor does he present any solutions to the problems against which he fulminates. The result is a difficult, divisive, unpleasant, querulous, and uninstructive book that larger business collections might tolerate

This book gives a pretty decent macroeconomic view of Wall Street. Henwood explains stocks, bonds, derivatives, currencies, the Federal Reserve, Bretton Woods, the (in)efficiency of markets and many other topics. He then interprets what these things mean from a leftist perspective. The financial world is heavily right wing and accuses the left wing of not understanding how economics work and thus why the right wing is right about economics. This book will demystify acronyms like LIBOR, GDP and CAPM, and explain to you in Wall Street terminology how the rich are robbing the working class in this country (and the world) blind. Henwood's book, like Marx's Capital, is at heart an economic treatise with political ideas sandwiched in between the economic data and analysis.

A scathing dissection of the wheeling and dealing in the world's greatest financial center. Spot rates, zero coupons, blue chips, futures, options on futures, indexes, options on indexes. The vocabulary of a financial market can seem arcane, even impenetrable. Yet despite its opacity, financial news and comment is ubiquitous.

Major national newspapers devote pages of newsprint to the financial sector and television news invariably features a visit to the market for the latest prices. Does this prodigious flow of information have significance for anyone except the tiny percentage of people who have significant holdings of stocks or bonds? And if it does, can non-specialists ever hope to understand what the markets are up to? To these questions Wall Street answers an emphatic yes. Its author Doug Henwood is a notorious scourge of the stock exchange in the pages of his acerbic publication Left Business Observer.

The Newsletter has received wide acclamation from J.K. Galbraith, among others, and occasional less favorable comment. Norman Pearlstine, then executive editor of the Wall Street Journal, lamented, `You are scum ... it's tragic that you exist.'

With compelling clarity, Henwood dissects the world's greatest financial center, laying open the intricacies of how, and for whom, the market works. The Wall Street which emerges is not a pretty sight. Hidden from public view, the markets are poorly regulated, badly managed, chronically myopic and often corrupt. And though, as Henwood reveals, their activity contributes almost nothing to the real economy where goods are made and jobs created, they nevertheless wield enormous power. With over a trillion dollars a day crossing the wires between the world's banks, Wall Street and its sister financial centers don't just influence government, effectively they are the government.

If Karl Marx wrote as well as Doug Henwood, who knows what course history might have taken?

: STEVE VAI - Book and Articles

Steven "Steve" Siro Vai (born June 6, 1960 in Carle Place, New York) is an American instrumental rock guitarist, songwriter, vocalist, producer, and actor. After starting his professional career as a music transcriptionist for Frank Zappa, Vai would also record and tour in Zappa's backing band starting in 1980. The guitarist began a solo career starting in 1984 and has released 13 solo albums as of 2008. Apart from his work with Frank Zappa, Vai has also recorded and toured with numerous musical artists including Alcatrazz, David Lee Roth and Whitesnake.

Vai has been a regular touring member of the G3 Concert Tour which began in 1996. In 1999 Vai started his own record label Favored Nations with the intent to showcase, as Vai describes: "...artists that have attained the highest performance level on their chosen instruments."

With this you can find 2 articles and a book: 10 Hour Workout, 30 Hour Path To Virtuoso Enlightenmen, and Guitar Books...From Steve Vai

Vai also helped design his signature Ibanez JEM series of guitars. They feature a hand grip (fondly referred to as a "monkey grip") cut into the top of the body of the guitar, a humbucker-single coil-humbucker DiMarzio pickup configuration with several different types of pickup including Evolution, Breed and EVO 2. He also uses an Ibanez Edge double-locking tremolo system (the current production JEMs have the newer Edge Pro), as well as an elaborate and extensive "Tree of Life" inlay down the neck. Vai also equips many of his guitars with an Ibanez Backstop, a tremolo stabilizer that has been discontinued. Lately Vai has also equipped some of his guitars with True Temperament fretboards in order for his chords to sound completly in tune.[6] Vai also has a 7-string model designed by him named Ibanez Universe. The Universe later influenced the 7-string guitars used by Korn and other bands to create nu metal sounds in the late 1990s. He also has a signature Ibanez acoustic, the Euphoria. Before he used Ibanez, he briefly endorsed Jackson guitars, but this relationship would only last for two years.

Steve Vai has also worked with Carvin Guitars and Pro Audio to develop the Carvin Legacy line of guitar amplifiers. Vai wanted to create an amp that was unique and equal in sound, versatility, and affordability to any guitar amp he had previously used.[7] Over his long musical career, Steve Vai has used and designed an array of guitars. He even had his DNA put into the swirl paint job on one of his signature JEM guitars, the JEM2KDNA, in the form of his blood. Only 300 of these were ever made. Nowadays he mainly uses his white "Evo", a JEM7V, and his "Flo", which is a customized Floral Jem 777FP painted white. They are both inscribed with their names in two places, mainly in order to allow him to distinguish between the guitars he uses onstage. "Flo" is equipped with a Fernandes sustainer system.

He also has a guitar named "Mojo" in which the dot inlays are blue LED lights. Additionally, he has a custom-made triple-neck guitar that has the same basic features as his JEM7V guitars. The top neck is a 12-string guitar, the middle is a 6-string, and the bottom is a 6-string fretless guitar with a Fernandes Sustainer pickup. This guitar was featured on the G3 2003 tour on the piece I Know You're Here. Vai's effects pedals include a modified Boss DS-1, Ibanez Tube Screamer, Morley Bad Horsie, Ibanez Jemini Twin Distortion Pedal, TC Electronics G-System, Morley Little Alligator Volume pedal, Digitech Whammy, and an MXR Phase 90/Phase 100 on the Passion and Warfare album. His flight cases are labeled "Mr. Vai", or latterly, "Dr. Vai". He used a number of rack effects units controlled via MIDI, but used a floor-based TC electronics G system instead for the Zappa Plays Zappa tour.

A detailed look at how to profit in the precious metals market

Precious metals roared back from near oblivion to become front-page news at the turn of the new millennium. It's not simply the extraordinary price volatility that has revived investor interest. Technology has changed the way we mine, use, and even invest in precious metals—and supply/demand fundamentals have quickly evolved—ushering in a new age of precious metal trading. New investment vehicles, including derivatives, interest rate futures and options, and stock issues representing physical gold (ETFs), have created "must use" strategies for the most sophisticated investors, as well as profit-packed opportunities for anyone willing to learn exciting new approaches.

People's lives have been, and will continue to be, surrounded and influenced by precious metals. Yet precious metals are among the least understood "investments." If you want to compete and win in today's investment arena, you have to use every profitable avenue available. With Precious Metals Trading on your side, you'll learn how to add weight and performance to your portfolio with gold, silver, platinum, and palladium.

Today, gold, silver, platinum, and palladium offer a new and different profit potential for those who understand the impact of new technologies, new economic forces, and new demographics. Updated to reflect changes in this market since the mid-1990s, The Precious Metals Trader focuses on new developments that could translate into serious profit-making trends-from electrically-generated automobiles that could substantially increase demand for platinum to the increased use of composites in dentistry, which could negatively impact the use of both silver and gold. The Precious Metals Trader also explains the supply/demand fundamentals of the four precious metals-gold, silver, platinum, and palladium-and provides projections about long-term trends and profit opportunities that will coincide with them. Filled with fresh insights from Philip Gotthelf-one of the top experts in this field-The Precious Metals Trader offers readers the guidance they need to trade profitably within this dynamic market.
Philip Gotthelf (Closter, NJ) publishes the Commodex System-the oldest daily futures trading system published in the world-and the Commodity Futures Forecast Service. He is also President of Equidex Incorporated and Equidex Brokerage Group Inc.

How to Make People Like You in 90 Seconds or Less

Workman Publishing Company | 2000-09-15 | ISBN: 076111940X | 160 pages | PDF | 6,8 MB

Whether selling, managing, negotiating, planning, collaborating, pitching, instructing-or on your knees with a marriage proposal-the secret of success is based on connecting with other people. Now that connection is infinitely easier to make through Nicholas Boothman's program of rapport by design.

HOW TO MAKE PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN 90 SECONDS OR LESS is the work of a master of Neuro-Linguistic Programming whose career is teaching corporations and groups the secrets of successful face-to-face communication. Aimed at establishing rapport-that stage between meeting and communicating-HOW TO MAKE PEOPLE LIKE YOU focuses on the concept of synchrony. It shows how to synchronize attitude, synchronize body language, and synchronize voice tone so that you instantly and imperceptibly become someone the other person likes. Reinforcing these easy-to-learn skills is knowing how to read the other person's sensory preferences-most of us are visual, some are kinesthetic, and a minority are auditory. So when you say "I see what you mean" to a visual person, you're really speaking his language. Along the way the book covers attitude, nervousness, words that open a conversation and words that shut it down, compliments, eye cues, the magic of opposites attracting, and more. It's how to make the best of the most important 90 seconds in any relationship, business or personal.

The Candlestick Course by Steve Nison

Steve Nison revolutionized the world of technical analysis when his two bestselling books introduced Japanese candlestick charting techniques to the western world. "Candles," he discovered, can signal shifts in trends and price patterns with amazing accuracy, and these "storyteller" charts also contain powerful applications for today’s volatile short-term markets.

In The Candlestick Course, Nison breaks new ground once again. From the basics through the more complex stages of pattern recognition, each chapter includes specific learning objectives, key terms, clear-cut instruction, and practical applications. Plus, each end-of-chapter quiz allows readers to perfect their charting abilities before moving on. This book is the ideal training tool for newcomers, and perfect for veterans looking to refine and hone their skills.

Focused on the needs of today’s active traders and investors, Nison:
* Provides a solid foundation to candlestick charts–reinforcing key skills as you go
* Reveals how to pinpoint critical market opportunities as they arise, by recognizing key candle signals
* Tests your ability to accurately analyze and interpret candle charts
* Demonstrates how candlestick concepts can trigger potent decision-support tools that can confirm–or enhance–buy/sell signals
* Includes a valuable "progressive charting" case study
* Ties all the aspects of candlesticks together through interactive examples and visual tests.

This course book will familiarize you with the intriguing world of The Morning Star, The Hammer, The Dark Cloud Cover–and the many other powerful and precise patterns Nison shares with fellow traders and investors.

Candlestick charting is more popular than ever before, with a legion of new traders and investors being introduced to the concept by some of today’s hottest investment gurus. Having introduced the candlestick technique to the West through two of his bestselling books, Steve Nison is regarded as a luminary in the field of candlestick charting. In his new venture, The Candlestick Course, Nison explains patterns of varying complexity and tests the reader’s knowledge with quizzes, Q&As, and intensive examples.

In accessible and easy-to-understand language, this book offers expert instruction on the practical applications of candlestick charting to give every level of investor a complete understanding of this proven, profitable, and time-tested investing technique. Straightforward answers quickly clarify this easy-to-use charting method. This guide will allow readers to recognize and implement various candlestick patterns and lines in today’s real-world trading environment–giving them a noticeable edge in their trading activities.

This book is for those individuals who like to read about certain candlestick characteristics, and then test themselves on their level of understanding. Each chapter begins with a bullet-pointed list of learning objectives and key terms to watch for. It then explains the concept, shows examples, provides highlighted key points, and then provides review questions, and detailed answers. In most all of the chapters, the review questions and answers take up more pages than the explanation of the candlestick pattern or the concept being taught. So, this is more of an instructional and teacher-student approach to the subject.

For readers who are avid students and like to work through numerous exercises and examples of the basics of candlesticks, this book will serve their needs well. For other investors who want more "meat" and detailed information and explanation, then I would recommend Nison's "Beyond Candlesticks" instead.

Not just a one-time read, The Candlestick Course can be used as a valuable reference source, and quick refresher course, time and again. Wacth the videos where chandlestick can be applied in FOREX market.
